The choice is fascism, repression, reversal of freedoms women and minorities won over the past century, and climate disaster, or a chance to continue pushing for a better, fairer more humane society
When all we have left, as citizens, are the two choices offered us this election; when most of our government is infested by AIPAC which controls our President and Congress, it is time to vote from the rooftops, not the ballot box. If the cancer that has beset us is not eradicated, we're fucked and deserve it.
All we ever had since they decline of the Socialist Party of in the late '30s and early
40s has been small third parties that offered no alternative, did no organizing once the presidential election was over, virtually no grass roots party building in local or state races or work on a base in the organized labor movement. Until that hard work is done, we don't and won't have a electoral vehicle for change. My point though is that this year is different. In Project 2025 qw see a roadmap for fasacism which has been developed by over a hundred close Trump associates/sycophants, and he's trying frantically to deny any connection. As bad as things are, we still have freedom of speech and press but those things, like a woman's right to choose, and a black person's right to vote are on the cutting board if Trump gets elected. Hence my article here. I believe this is like the 1933 Weimar election for German Chancellor, when the Socialists and Communists were so busy fighting each other (literally in street battles!) that Hitler was elected with a plurality and was made Chancelllor. I think this calls for exercising our votes and then a commitment to do the hard work of building a mass party of the left to give us not just something to vote FOR, but a chance to take power.
Yes, only mass action that disrupts the economy can hold off more horrible policies. Ultimately, workers taking power can make society more equitable. It is extremely naive to think Kamala's comments at the DNC have any meaning. Did you catch former CIA director Panetta and 2 West Point generals endorsing her? She wants to end the genocide because it is so destabilizing not because she is anti-Zionist. Trump's policies already exist- EPA is gutted, education sucks, US/NATO inflame relations with Russia, etc.
That you are weighing historical precedence in an era upon which “unprecedented” arrives in each daily newscast, irreversible climate catastrophe, IS happening, and 90 seconds to irreversible nuclear Armageddon has never been closer to reality, and as such. CAN be Happening.
Your political Sophie’s Choice advocacy deserves circumspection and reconsideration.
Your premises hang upon Kamala somehow not being a DEI pawn of imperialism as usual, and the transmogrification of the Democratic platform (justifying genocide abroad while at home openly violating our First Amendment, etc. etc. etc.) is not pragmatic, (defined as sensible and realistic).
The corporate controlled uni-party must be thwarted by empowering a true electoral choice in the next election. 5% of the vote for the Independent Party can provide an outcome that offers alternatives to imperialism as usual.
Voting for Harris, as I explained, at least as it applies to Ukraine, is not voting for war, in my view, because the US has shown it will not allow a provocation that would lead to Russia using nukes. I may be wrong, but 79 years of no nuclear war despite grave crises givex me hope. The president who could cause a war (with airan) is more likely Trump, though hopefully that would not be nuclear.

Tori,

Yes Dave, you “might be wrong” alright.

So, vote for more war but dont call yourselves leftists.
