That is mostly true. Although on some college campuses, men and women use male or female restrooms based upon convenience, especially in dorms. I think a lot of younger adults are a lot looser about all that. And as for older folks, sometimes it an be a matter of any port in a storm. Me, I'd much sooner walk into a woman's restroom and grab an empty stall to pee in than go qround all dqy with a wet spot on the front of my jeans because I couldn't locate or get a spot wwith a free toilet or urinal in a men's restroom. And like many women, when the women''s restroom is in high demand and there's a long line, like at intermission in a full-house concert, she's not beyond just pushing her way into a men's bathroom and grabbing the first available stall. The walls are falling...

Unisex (man or woman) bathrooms are usually strictly separate rooms — at least in the US

I wonder why does an OLD MAN like you feels free to discuss the disrespect to women's sex based rights and privacy while we're in the restrooms? I do wonder about the humanity of an old man who would rather scare a woman OR A GIRL than be in conflict with other men.

BTW, MOST of Europe has SEX segregated toilets.

As in, gtfo out of women's hardly won RIGHT to be present and safe in public.

Also, this has nothing to do with "transgender" shit.

First of asll, I' swas commenting on an observed difference between the US approach to the bathroom issue, mostly by battling over the right of LGBTQ persons to be able to feel safe and comfortable in the restroom that works for them, not to mention the regurn to segregating the 'Other" to hard to reach limited restrooms as in the days of racial apartheid in the US. You're making it out of line for me to comment on the different realities of Poland and the US? Sorry that doesn't work, wither I'm 20 or 74 and you are being an agest in your criticism of me, which i guess you think is okay. That speaks for itself. Maybe some polish women might comment. That would make more sense.

The problem really is that Western men learned everything they know in high school – not just intellectually – but emotionally too. Their worldview was reinforced after that in college.

Reality is what their friends say. It's an ontological circle jerk.

They are adolescents pretending to “maturity" – without the faintest notion of what that should be or could be. Much less integrity.

The trouble is right now they don't have any money. They are failing all the tests. And they're not getting laid. They need a little love—whatever that is!

So you're saying you're a minority, the most endangered oppressed pretendian there is?

In Scotland and the rest of the Uk we have seperate toilets for both sexes and the provision of a disabled toilet.

As a woman I want seperate toilet facilities to provide safe spaces for women and girls. Safegaurding women/girls is not restricted to the "looney right" and lumping all women who do not want males in our intimate spaces as such is sexist and displays a complete disregard for the need for seperate spaces for women and girls. I suggest that you do a little research into the reasons why safegaurding is paramount.

As for y.our use of the "cis" prefix, there are no such people. Diana a transwoman wrrote the following:

Just to be clear, I'm not advocating single restrooms, as the ones I saw in Poland and also in parts of France (years ago, the last time I was there). I think the idea of restrooms that allow everyone to feel comfortable is good, As or terminology, i appreciate your note and the thoughtful article you linked to. The problem is, there are myriad perspectives on what terminology to use in an issue -- speciallized restrooms-- where terminology is necessary informationally. So until there is some kind of concensus on what works with the least amount of fuss, insult and confusion, I have to use something that means people born with two X genes and people born with an X and a Y gene, which is the way most US restrooms are designated. The important thing is that nobody should be denied easy access to a restroom on account of their sex, sexual identity, sexual expression or whatever. The point of this article is to say that what is wrong is making a big fuss about who's using a particular restroom, and to put restrictions on that use based on fear and prejudice-- especially. when most of that fear and prejudiced is being stoked by a major US political party, the Republicans, which is trying desperately to generate rage and anger against the growing non-white and more diverse population that is heading towards being a majority of the US population. That campaign includes opposing people who have different lifestyles, cultures and political views from most Republicans.
