We Need a Truth-in-Labeling Reform for the US Government under Trump
Let’s start with the ‘Defense’ Department and the Whites' House. (This is a reader participation project, by the way!)

For years as a journalist writing on international affairs, I have tried to avoid calling the traditionally civilian head of the US military the Secretary of Defense, either using Secretary of “Defense,” Secretary of Defense (sic), or Secretary of War (the name that position had until 1947 when it was decided that the US would henceforth be presented as a nation of peace that would never launch wars, only defend itself, however violently). (In fact, almost all its wars since then have been invasions or “interventions,” always described as defensive actions.)
But just this past week, Trump, in mentioning his head of the military, Pete Hegseth, called him his Secretary of War.
I say, that’s great! But why stop there?
The US political scene and the very government itself under President Trump in his second term has changed so profoundly that we need to rename every department, agency, and branch of government to comply with truth-in-packaging standards. In fact, it shouldn’t be referred to as a government, but as a “regime.”
Which reminds me: How can the Trump-owned social media site that spreads his lies like a llama spews out spittle be called ‘Truth Social”? It should be called “Lies Anti-Social.”
The White House, home to the president, comes close to being an accurate title, but should more appropriately be referred to as the Whites’ House. GThis is because 97% of this president’s White House executive staff are white people (basically everyonwe but the service staff, who historically back to the actual construction of the building after it had been burned to the ground in the War of 1812 has been black — and at that time also enslaved).
ICE detention centers should be called what they really are: concentration camps.
The Center for Disease Control, under the direction of Robert Kennedy Jr., has got to be renamed the Center of Disease Conspiracies.
But why should I have all the fun?
So I’m throwing this idea out to all this site’s readers. Please come back in the comment section below with your own suggestions for truth-in-packaging names for government departments, agencies, operations, leadership positions, and I’ll compile the best into an alternative AP Style Book or use by journalists trying to write accurate and informative news stories.
